Artist
Faig Ahmed
Faig Ahmed (b. 1982, Sumqayit, Azerbaijan) trained in sculpture at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Fine Arts. He treats the historic Azerbaijani carpet as an information system that can be disrupted and re-coded, using distortions of pattern, scale and material to set craft tradition against digital visual culture. He was shortlisted for the Jameel Prize 3 at the V&A (2013), and his work is held by LACMA, the Art Institute of Chicago, Seattle Art Museum, RISD Museum and the National Gallery of Victoria. His recent practice extends into consciousness, neuroscience, probability and emerging technology. He showed in Azerbaijan's first Venice pavilion in 2007 and returned in 2026 as its sole artist with The Attention, which includes the quantum-random installation Entropy Altar.

Azerbaijan's national pavilion at the 61st Venice Biennale, a seven-room journey guided by one transforming carpet. It draws on the Hurufi poetry of Nasimi, which reads the cosmos as letters and numbers, and sets it beside quantum physics and information theory. The catalogue includes an essay by physicist Stephon Alexander.
