Libby Heaney

Libby Heaney is a British artist and quantum physicist who holds a PhD in quantum information science and treats quantum computing itself as an artistic medium. Writing her own quantum code to manipulate animation and video, she explores superposition, entanglement, and non-linear time as ways to blur the boundaries between human and machine. Her acclaimed installation "Ent-", a quantum reinterpretation of Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights, has been shown at Schering Stiftung Berlin, LAS Art Foundation, and Frieze Sculpture.

Prints from Heaney's 2022 solo show remiQXing still at Fiumano Clase, London, which turned the gallery into a showroom for QX, her fictional quantum-computing company. The Quantum Hybrids are watercolours of hybrid creatures, inspired by the liminal figures in Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights, that were fragmented and recomposed by her own quantum code and printed on transparent acrylic. They are the source illustrations for her installation Ent- (2022). The show also included prints on mirrored gold Dibond (UNCHARTED, Potential – light) that consider the possible futures of quantum computing.
