Artwork Record
Quantum Chip Bitmap
About this work
Treats qubit positions on the superconducting chip as pixels and gate operations as brush strokes. The probabilistic images that appear when the chip is measured are the artwork. The images run in reverse chronological order, so the series also records the machine's improving performance; the last three are raw measurements of "aesthetic" quantum states.
Technique
Each qubit on the chip is a pixel and gates are drawing tools: X flips a pixel, SX sets brightness through superposition, and CNOT binds pixels through entanglement. Measurement destroys the state, so the image only appears through repeated prepare-and-measure runs. The images were Risograph-printed so that print errors echo the hardware's noise.
